Whose Joy Is It, Anyway?

“The joy of the Lord” is an interesting phrase.  Actually, it’s an ambiguous phrase.  I’ve always heard it talked about as, “the joy I have that comes from the Lord”.  But it could also mean “the joy that is the Lord’s (He’s the one who’s joyful)”.  The shift of focus from me to Him is something to ponder.  “The joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh 8:10) would mean that you are strong because He is joyful.  I find joy in the thought of making Him joyful…

  1. “God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure. ” – Eric Liddell…..isn’t it wonderful to know that being who you are created to be can make you stronger as He is pleased by your effort…..the effort He ordained. Good post, Alan!
